After 21 months, Nasa Opportunity rover has reached Victoria Crater. This crater is 800m wide and appears at least 60m deep and Opportunity will make panoramic images before scientist can send it down.
This is a geologists dream come true. Those layers of rock, if we can get to them, will tell us new stories about the environmental conditions long ago. [Principal scientist Steve Squyres of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, US.]
