This talk is part of a series of evening talks/discussions on the subject of electronic poetry led by Penny Florence, Tim Mathews and John Cayley.
As we had just arrived back from China, we had missed two previous sessions. This session was hosted on level 5 (States of Flux) of the Tate Modern in London and featured speakers included Tim Mathews, Sharon Morris, Elizabeth James, one visual presentation of Talan Memmott (not present in person) and a virtual theorist, N Katherine Hayles. The nature of works presented was both generative and interactive with a focused on particular reading spaces. For the session we attended, no reactive works were shown, such as works that plays live with its own history or other external textual bodies. The series of talks poses important questions to where these works belong as they focus on poetic language but communicate through visual and electronic media. Is this visual art or poetry? Where should this type of work be shown?

All the works dealt with postmodernism, and were interlinked with media theory. For Talan Memmott the work even served as a demonstration of his own theoretical discourses.
